NTv2

NTv2 Online Computation

NTv2 single point and batch file processing now available for UTM and Geographic coordinate files.

The NTv2 grid shift file and software are distributed on CD-ROM, which includes the User's Guide and Developer's Guide in digital format. Two series of digital graphics provide a map-based visual display of the variability of the shifts and their accuracies, and illustrate how well the NTv2 performs at the actual control survey points on which it is based.

Replacing Version 1, which has been in use since 1990, NTv2 offers some significant advantages:

  • the algorithm for modeling the shifts in the intervals between control survey network points has been improved;
  • the modelling is based on more control survey networks, including many recently integrated municipal networks;
  • variable grid densities in the grid shift file conform better to denser networks;
  • accuracy statements for each transformed point provide realistic estimates for error budgeting;
  • revised software provides several new features, mainly focused on flexibility of input and output formats. (GHOST format or three delimited ASCII formats)

The software is generically written for DOS, and the supplied FORTRAN source code can easily be recompiled by the end-user to modify the formats for the input and output coordinate data, or to port the NTv2 to other platforms such as UNIX, VAX/VMS, and MAC/OS. Complete grid shift file structure specifications and access algorithms facilitate more complex integration into end-user systems.

Commercial software with NTv2 feature.

The National Transformation Software Package

Grid shift interpolation software and data to provide a national solution for transforming coordinates between NAD27 and NAD83. CD ROM version contains graphical analysis of regional shifts. (Available for DOS PC)

You can run NTV2.0 Online or download NTV2 software for standalone PC use.

GSD will license the NTv2 for incorporation as a feature in GIS, cartographic, coordinate computation, and other geomatics-related software products. Inquiries are invited from interested developers.
