This program will compute the conversion between Geographic coordinates, latitude and longitude and Transverse Mercator Grid coordinates.
The UTM projection has a scale factor of .9996, a false easting of 500000.0 metres and a false northing of 0.0 metre. A series of central meridians are defined by 6 degree zones starting at 180 degrees west.
The user may choose this standard projection or may choose a 3 degree as defined for Canada. The scale factor for this projection is .9999 and the false easting is 304800.0 metres.
The user may define any TM projection by changing the definitions of scale, central meridian, false easting and false northing. These parameters are already defined within the program for two standard projections, UTM and 3 degree.
Coordinates may be entered from the terminal or from a file for conversion . The results can be saved in a formatted listing or on a coordinate file.
NRCAN's GSD has recently released a new coordinate transformation package called TRX that combines and replaces GSRUG and TRNOBS. As such, GSRUG has been discontinued.
You can download TRX through our CSRS Online Database. If you are not already a member, you can create an account for free at the following page:
TRX can then be found in the 'GSD software request' page.
